Community Development
The Rio Tuba Nickel Foundation, Inc. (RTNFI) was organized to manage
the operation of RTNFI Hospital, the LSUMS School and the Social
Development and Management Program (SDMP) of Rio Tuba Nickel Mining
Corporation (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC), its
major donors.
RTNFI provides full scholarship in LSUMS School for 1,042
students for the school year 2005-2006. It also provides free
hospitalization benefits to residents in 11 barangays.
The SDMP appropriated Php 93 million for 5-year period from 2005
to 2009 or approximately Php 20 million per year. The funds
will be used for various projects including:
- Infrastructure
- Construction, repair and improvement of feeder roads
- Construction of multi-purpose pavements
- Construction of day-care centers, training centers, tribal
halls, recreation areas, classrooms, etc.
- Improvement of Irrigation system and installation of
jetmatic pumps and water tanks.
- Livelihood Projects
- Provision of seed capital for proposed projects of
community cooperatives.
- Provision of farm tractors and implements, thresher,
sprayer, etc. including seeds and fertilizers.
- Provision of motorized fishing boats and accessories.
- Provision of cattles, carabaos, swine, goats and chickens
- Conduct training programs for local residents
- Education
- Scholarship grants to some 312 elementary, high school and
college students
- Conduct of literacy program/ leadership seminar among
young and adult IPs.
- Social Services
- Provision of service vehicles, tricycles, ambulance, and
communication equipment.
- Conduct of medical outreach program.
- Offers free medical and dental services to indigent
community residents
- Provision of power generator sets and petromax lighting.
- Offers financial assistance during festivities.
